Following the ValorBarroso creation ceremony, which took place last Friday, June 25th, the Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Manuel Heitor, together with the Mayor of Boticas, Fernando Queiroga, the President of CCDR-N, António Cunha, and Iberdrola’s environmental manager, Sara Hoya, inaugurated the Center for Interpretation and Environmental Awareness (Portuguese C.I.S.A.), at Boticas Parque – Nature and Biodiversity (Portuguese BNB).
The C.I.S.A. is a recreational and educational space aimed primarily at the younger public and whose main objective is the scientific and environmental dissemination of the river mussel (Margaritífera margaritífera), a species of bivalve protected by the Convention on the Conservation of Wildlife and Natural Habitats. A space that makes known the vast natural heritage existing in the Municipality of Boticas and in the region, while contributing to the diversification of tourist and environmental activities available at the BNB.
The creation of the C.I.S.A. took place under the “Flora and Fauna Compensation Plan”, assigned to the Municipality of Boticas by Iberdrola, the company responsible for the construction of the Tâmega Eletroproduction System, and appears as a complement to the Reproduction Center of river mussels also installed in Boticas Parque.
