On July 1, 2, and 3, the Nadir Afonso Center for the Arts will host the International Congress on Culture and the Arts in the context of the Portuguese (1933-1974) and Brazilian (1937-1945) New States – “Modernismo Pra Lá e Pra Cá”.
The initiative, which will take place on the first day online, through the digital platform ZOOM, and on the remaining days in person, will feature the participation of several researchers from the Social Sciences and Humanities, linked to research centers from several European and Brazilian universities.
DURING THE MEETING A SIMPLE TRIBUTE WILL BE PAID TO NADIR AFONSO.
The analysis of the role of the various artistic disciplines, from the visual to the performing arts, including also literature, in the construction, legitimation, and resistance to (para)fascisms is also the motto for a reflection on the place of art in the exercise of a critical and active citizenship.
The congress is organized by the Nadir Afonso Foundation, Alter Ibi – cross-border association for development and the Brazilian Chamber of Cultural Development – Arte Agora, with the support of the Municipality of Boticas, the Center for Research and Studies in Fine Arts (CIEBA), the University of Lisbon, the University of Mato Grosso do Sul and the Archaeology Unit of the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro, among others.
