The Boticas Municipality now has two pedestrian routes registered and approved by the Portuguese Camping and Mountaineering Federation (Portuguese FCMP) and the European Ramblers Association.
The creation and certification of the Rota das Levadas route (PR4), starting and ending at Boticas Parque – Nature and Biodiversity (Portuguese BNB), and the Trilho do Guerreiro trail (PR5), which links the BNB to the Hillfort of Outeiro Lesenho, will contribute to the promotion and enhancement of the natural, cultural and landscape heritage of the Boticas Municipality, as well as to the dissemination of the Barroso region, recognised as World Agricultural Heritage.
The Rota das Levadas route, 13.3 kilometres long, runs along both banks of the Beça River towards the village of Carvalhelhos, passing by the Amores fountain and the Hillfort of Carvalhelhos.
The Trilho do Guerreiro trail, a 16.2 kilometre stretch, begins at the BNB and continues through the village of Vilar to the Hillfort of Outeiro Lesenho, classified as a Public Interest Site, and the Burial Mound of Chã do Lesenho.
The Rota das Levada route and the Trilho do Guerreiro trail were created as part of the “Barroso Nature Observation Centre” application, presented by the Municipality of Boticas to the notice NORTE-28-2018-04 – PROVERE Collective Efficiency Strategies – Anchor Project.
