The exhibition “Mascaras Rituais de Portugal (Ritual Masks of Portugal)” is on display until February 27, at the Ecomuseu de Barroso – espaço padre Fontes, in Montalegre. Composed of several dozens of masks and accessories used in festive rituals of the Roberto Afonso Collection.
The exhibition, with the festas (festive celebrations) distributed chronologically between October 31 and June 24, can be understood as a guide of the festas with masquerades of Portugal, spontaneous manifestations whose origin is lost in the times.
In addition to the mask, each composition integrates elements related to the characters and aspects of the party complemented with texts by Roberto Afonso, Alex Rodrigues, Alfredo Cameirão, Antero Neto, António Tiza and Isidro Rodrigues, that allow a better knowledge of the presented rituals
