Nadir Afonso Museum of Contemporary Art

Inaugurated on July 8, 2016, the Nadir Afonso Museum of Contemporary Art (Portuguese MACNA)  hosts a hundred screens freely provided by the foundation with its name, hundreds of studies and an important set of books and documentary archive.

Among the spaces that make up the building by the architect Álvaro Siza Vieira, we highlight  the auditorium with capacity for 100 people, the exhibition rooms, archives, library, coffee bar, Mestre Nadir Afonso’s atelier and shop.

The MACNA intends to be a cultural center in the city of Chaves and in the region through the organization of exhibitions, documentary film cycles, workshops and summer courses. It is also planned to award the Nadir Afonso Prize for research and scholarships in the area of artistic and scientific production.

The eight million euros museum was financed 85% by european funds and it is run by the City Council of Chaves.
