The castro is located 9.5 km (12 minutes by car) from Boticas county seat, route N103 (direction Chaves). Park in the signposted area on the map and follow the remaining 900 meters on foot.
Cornos das Alturas
At 1279 meters high, the ‘Cornos das Alturas’ are the orographic reference that identifies the region and the highest point of Boticas. From there, you can enjoy a breathtaking landscape, from the Serra of Larouco and Gerês, to the North and Northwest, to the Serras of Cabreira and Marão, to the South.
The climb to the ‘cornos’ (horns) presents some difficulties so it is recommended that you choose to appreciate the landscape from the natural viewpoints provided by the surrounding heights.
The village of Alturas do Barroso is located 19.3 km (30 minutes by car) from Boticas county seat, route R311 (direction Salto) and M520.
Between the Regional Road 311 and the village of Covas do Barroso you will find a particularly spectacular view in the spring, where the hardness of the stone contrasts with the softness of the colors in spots to lose sight of.
18.2 km (24 minutes) from Boticas county seat route R311 (direction Salto) and M519 (direction Covas do Barroso).
Located 11.6 km (21 minutes by car) from Boticas county seat on the slope of a hill, route N312 and M530, the village of Mosteirão benefits from a panoramic view of extraordinary beauty.
Serra do Barroso
The site is located 22.7 km (35 minutes by car) from Boticas county seat, route R311 (direction Salto) and M520 (direction Alturas do Barroso).
When you reach the ‘Cornos das Alturas’ go straight on the road that serves the wind farm (see map). The course to the suggested point (and after) is a great natural lookout point, drive slowly and enjoy the scenery.
Serra do Leiranco
At the summit of Serra do Leiranco, the second highest point of the county with 1155 meters, you can enjoy magnificent views. The village of Boticas, several villages, the town of Chaves, the reservoir of the Alto Rabagão dam (or Pisões), the Serra do Larouco or the peaks of Gerês, are some of the places you can enjoy in horizons to lose sight of.
In the satellite images it is not possible to see the gravel road that has been built for the wind farm, so it is not possible to show a route.
The suggested observation points are 5 km from the entrance to the road (see map) and are 600 meters apart.
The gravel road is not in good condition.
Located in the foothills of the Serra do Barroso, the rugged landscape denounces the harshness of life in the cold lands of the village of Vilarinho Seco, one of the best preserved of all the Barroso region.
The site is located 23.6 km (36 minutes by car) from Boticas county seat, route R311 (direction Salto) and M520 (direction Alturas do Barroso).
