With more than 1000 meters of difference between the highest and lowest points, – 1279 meters in Alturas do Barroso and 225 meters in Fiães do Tâmega –, Boticas offers a spectacular diversity of landscapes, ranging from the high granitic mountains to the valleys covered by meadows.

Alto do Castro

On the site, overlooking the villages of Covas do Barroso, Romainho and Muro, is a group of cliffs where traces of a castle were discovered.

Alto do Castro is located 16.8 km (25 minutes by car) from the county seat via R311 (towards Salto) and M519 (towards Aldeia de Campos). When arriving at the access dirt road marked with the name Olhar do Guerreiro, leave the car where it is convenient and follow the remaining 500 meters on foot.

Located on an eastern spur of the Serra do Pindo mountain, the hillfort benefits from a spectacular panoramic view over the Terva River Valley and Serra do Leiranco mountain.

When you reach the village of Ardãos 13.3 km (21 minutes by car) from the county seat, via N103 and M527 (towards Chaves), leave the car and follow the remaining 3.5 km on foot. The route, of moderate difficulty, is signposted.

The Hillfort of Outeiro Lesenho crowns the hill of the same name, which rises to 1078 meters of altitude, dominating a wide landscape that covers practically all the county.

The hillfort is located 12 km (21 minutes by car) from the county seat, via R311 (towards Salto) and M519 (towards Aldeia de Campos). When you find a sign facing a dirt road, park and follow the remaining 800 meters on foot.

The Hillfort of Sapelos is located on an elongated spur promontory, benefiting from a privileged view over most of the Upper Terva River Valley.

The hillfort is located 9.5 km (12 minutes by car) from the county seat, via N103 (towards Chaves). Park neer the bus stop and continue the remaining 900 metres on foot.

Cornos das Alturas

The Couto dos Corvos, and its neighbour, the Couto do Sudro, constitute the so-called Cornos das Alturas (High Horns), which, with their 1279 metres of height, are the orographic reference that identifies the region, and the highest point of Boticas. From here, you can benefit from a breathtaking landscape, from the mountains of Larouco and Gerês, in the north and northwest, to the mountains of Cabreira and Marão, in the south.

Cornos das Alturas is located 19 km (25 minutes by car) from the county seat, via R311 (towards Salto) and M520. When you find the sign with the name Teto do Mundo (at Couto dos Corvos), park and follow the remaining 500 meters on foot.

Between the Regional Road 311 and the village of Covas do Barroso is a particularly spectacular view in the spring, where the hardness of the stone contrasts with the softness of colors in spots to lose sight of.

Serra do Barroso

The site is located 22.7 km (35 minutes by car) from the county seat, via R311 (towards Salto) and M520 (towards Alturas do Barroso).

When you arrive at the Cornos das Alturas follow the road that serves the wind turbines. All the way to the suggested point (and then) is a great natural viewpoint, go in slow march and enjoy the scenery.

Serra do Leiranco

At the summit of Serra do Leiranco mountain, the second highest point of the county, with 1155 meters, you can enjoy magnificent views. The town of Boticas, several villages, the city of Chaves, the reservoir of the dam of Alto Rabagão (or Pisões), the Serra do Larouco mountain or the peaks of Gerês, are some of the places you can enjoy in horizons to lose sight of.

The suggested views are about 5 km from the access to Leiranco and about 600 meters away from each other.

The road in the Serra do Leiranco mountain is made of gravel and the state of conservation may vary.

Vilarinho Seco

Located at the foot of the Serra do Barroso mountain, the rugged landscape denounces the harshness of life in the cold lands of the village of Vilarinho Seco, one of the best preserved of Barroso.

The site is located 23.6 km (36 minutes by car) from the county seat, via R311 (towards Salto) and M520 (towards Alturas do Barroso).
