Located near the village, on the slope that dominates the final part of the valley of the Beça river, the church of Santa Maria of Covas is the most notable example of the romanesque-gothic style religious architecture of the Barroso region, dating from the 14th century.
With an austere exterior, powerful granite faces, and a beautifully decorated ceiling, the church of Santa Maria of Covas houses a stunning mural decoration and the tomb with a statue of Afonso Anes de Barroso, dated 1459. It is classified as Property of Public Interest.
